Senate Cup28th November 2001 After the stunning performances of the Hatfield Cup, it was left to the senior rowers to complete the job; this time over the full length of the Wear. The women's 1st boat was their only entry in the competition. The capsize of a boat from St Leonards disturbed their division, but they still produced a strong performance to finish second amongst the colleges. As at York the girls found themselves beaten to 1st by Castle's 1st IV. These two crews were well clear of their opposition, and it seems clear that they will be fighting it out for top honours amongst the women next term. After York the men were forced to make some changes to the crews due to withdrawals. These changes obviously had an effect and whilst the men were unable to recreate last years magical 1st and 2nd placings, they still proved themselves to be amongst the elite of the college crews - with two crew in the top five. Competition for places should be fierce next term as the 1st IV were closely followed by the 2nd. Club captain - and lone sculler - Rob Collins came in as the fastest single of the day.
