Yorkshire HORR

9th March 2002

On the weekend of the Womens' HORR in London, the girls of CCBC could be found shivering by the banks of the Ouse in York. Women's Captain Jess Rhodes had tried valiantly to beg, borrow and steal boats and trailerage for London, but to no avail. So the 5km of Yorkshire Head became their tideway. The news later that the WHORR had been cancelled due to high winds seemed just.

The day didn't get off to the best of starts with the bus getting stuck in traffic, and the non-appearance of the DARC trailer carrying the infamous After Eight. It was agreed that the women's novice 8 could race in the second division if another boat could be found and a full set of blades. The WS3 4+ managed to boat, but when they arrived at the start found that they had a 15sec time penalty for late arrival. This must of just acted as further incentive, as the boat powered to victory - but not the first pot that stroke Penny Eskell had hoped for - the prizes where medals!

The second division saw the the novice girls out in the now present After Eight with blades borrowed from Derby RC. The CCBC blades were attached to a York City RC eight that had been kindly lent to the MS3 8. The womens' squads run of results continued with a fine win to take the novice 8's title. The men's eight had an eventful race finishing 3rd out of 8 place in S3 and 8th overall.
