Socials - Annual Bar Crawl

16th Oct 2001

Aidian's College BarThe 16th of October 2001 saw CCBC's infamous bar crawl around the college bars of Durham University.

It started with 70 members of the Durham's best college boat club congregating in the mighty Collingwood bar. A sizeable number of these were freshers who had recently joined the club.

The social secretaries had planned a route and drinks list to ensure that the party got through all the college bars and all the drinks.

Timings were tight so the drinks were downed in good style. Some hardened rowers attempted the ultimate challenge of two drinks in each bar. This was the toughest task faced by any drinker, a full 40 units to imbibe. Unsurprisingly none achieved this feat - for many, a drink in each of the 11 bars was enough.

What happened to Mary's?!As the hill college bars blended into the Bailey and the alcopops merged into the pints, the bar crawl feeling was upon us all. We raided the small college bars of Chad's, Cuth's and John's plus 24's. All was going well and the songs were flowing as we stumbled into Hatfield only to be repelled by some chap in a black bomber jacket! Never mind as our contingency plans kicked in and we were off to Kingsgate. By this point the CCBC procession had fragmented all over Durham. The survivors continued however to Rixy's.

The collective amnesia of the event ensured a messy following morning. What happened? The dartboard? Did we go to Klute? What happened in Mary's? What is for sure is that this classic event once again proved one not to be missed and that CCBC remains the best boat club both on - as well as off - the water!
